REVIEW: Boycott The Baptist – Bash The Bishop (Album)

By Cheri Faulkner · On April 12, 2017

So I was quite intrigued into having a listen to Boycott The Baptist due to the name and expected it to be more death metal than anything but unfortunately it was grindcore and that’s something I am not a fan of apart from a couple of bands. I feel this band captured what the band is about but it feels like a rip of every grindcore band but that’s just the sound right? Everything on this release seems to be just noise to me and nothing enjoyable on it. I can hear all the talent in the instruments and vocals but it just doesn’t flow together nicely compared to what I am used to hearing.

Every song on this release than just literally sounds exactly like the other and it’s super annoying because I feel like it’s one big track but in fact it’s loads on the album. Every track on this album is extremely short so I can see why they were trying to make up on the release with loads of tracks but it done nothing at all for me. I get the DIY sound on all the tracks but it just doesn’t sound too great even for DIY which really sucks as there is some complex stuff and thrashy riffs in the tracks that just get disheartened in the shoddy mix of the release.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this to any friends but I know grindcore is a genre which you can either love or hate and for this band was one that was in the middle Dislike them but like a few other grindcore bands.

There's some grindcore I can deal with but this isn't one of them
