Tigress release second EP Like It Is. The record perfectly blends together catchy pop melodies and vocals, with rock’s grit and broody sound that even manifest in Katy Jackson’s vocals. The EP offers a taste of various different sounds all seamlessly blended into one five track release.
The entire release sees Jackson’s brilliant vocal capabilities whilst also showcasing the band’s tight musicianship through the instrumentation below her. Give me a chance has an overly held back approach to instrumentation, especially in the verses, with Jackson leading the track from her hushed vocals on the verses, to her crooning in the choruses. While it’s not an overly catchy song it straight away highlights how tight the band sound, every element is well polished, from the backing vocals to the instrumentation. Shockwave has a similar feel, but also sounds totally different, the percussion in parts is just the clicking of fingers, with Jackson coming across strongest with her impressive vocal range flaunted between the different parts of the track. Temper, Temper closes out the record with the darkest sounding track, the instrumentation fuses to create the songs mood with Jackson as per giving a brilliant vocal performance.
With Like It Is, Tigress show they’re most definitely going to be ones to watch in the UK music scene. The band with five tracks show how varied they can be in approach to writing a track, yet each time has an element that is definitely their unique sound. Each track may well be different, but the record is brilliant and coherent, the band haven’t tried to break the boundaries of genre, but instead explore within those that they are comfortable in.
