It saddens me to say there were parts of me that were a little disappointed with this release from This Gun For Hire having been in the same position of self releasing an EP/album.
Now, don’t get me wrong, some songs they really nailed it for me but there seemed to be a lot of inconsistencies throughout, this has made reviewing Something A Little More Sinister challenging as I would change my mind at certain songs and say to myself, this isn’t that bad. Unfortunately the opening song Infection made me take a bit of a hesitant approach as at points the vocals, both clean and harsh, seemed a little messy. Now I can’t put this down to being purely because of the vocalists as there seemed to be a lot of irregularities which i picked up on in the production side with the odd change in volume and quality.
HOWEVER! There were some songs I did enjoy on this album, to name a few, Good Evening Deacon. This did in my opinion mould together a lot better, vocally and instrumentally. I feel like the vocals in To The Fallen And The Faithful was incredibly done, this being one of the more slower paced songs on the album.
I will however highlight that this is just my opinion and I do think that there is a lot that these guys can improve on and a lot that they’re doing right, but it just seems to a bit a little all over the place and as I said previously, inconsistent. They seem like a really tight bunch and I see the potential in them.
Check them out on their social media, give them a listen. /
