Stand Alone are a British rock band from Bradford who released their debut EP Nothing is Forgotten on December 12th 2014 (via Broken Road Records LTD). The 3 members, Gavin Stevenson (guitar, lead vocals), Tom Durrans (drums, backing vocals) and Luke Harrison (bass, backing vocals) started covering songs together in 2013 and were performing regularly at local pubs. Shortly after conquering several stages in Bradford, the trio began working on their own songs which can now be heard on Nothing is Forgotten. The record consists of 5 songs and lasts approximately 19 minutes so it is perfect for anyone who wants to give the EP a quick listen.
The release convinces with a quite powerful and raw sound. Fast paced drumming and dominant heavy guitar riffs are combined with thoughtful lyrics which encourage the listener to think about what is being addressed in the songs.
A first impression of what is to come gives ‘False Beginnings’, which dives into a heavy sounding instrumental for its intro. Stevenson’s powerful vocals slowly build up until all three musicians reach the climax of the song together – a perfect example of the ambitious work of the band. Following are the tunes ‘This Is Ours’ and ‘Easier Said Than Done’, the latter being the main single of the EP. It is slower and concentrates more on the emotional side rather than focusing on raw melodies. The strong leading voice of Gavin is easily guiding the listener and takes him on a musical journey which can thoroughly be enjoyed. Both ’Control’ and ‘Demons’ are again very fast and without a doubt create an almost pulsating atmosphere.
Stand Alone are currently trying to make their way into the West Yorkshire music scene and are keen on expanding their fan base. The rockers are definitely striving for greatness, they are ambitious and determined to make their dreams come true. The EP marks a solid debut which can be improved by more daring rhythms and lyrics. Although every song itself showcases their musical ability, the record lacks a bit in variety.
Nevertheless Invicta recommends giving the EP a listen if you are in the mood for a fast paced, powerful record. Fans of rock legends Biffy Clyro and Alter Bridge will most likely enjoy this creation as those bands have influenced Stand Alone greatly. Their neat songwriting and strong, classic sound make it a pleasure to listen to.
From covering other bands to playing their own songs up on stage - Gavin Stevenson, Tom Durrans and Luke Harrison have achieved what many aspiring musicians are still dreaming of, they released their debut EP 'Nothing Is Forgotten'. A promising and powerful record which leaves the listener wanting to hear more.
