No Zodiac are set to release their brand new album Altars of Impurity on the 7th of April 2017 via Siege Music.
Altars of Impurity is the band’s first release since their last album Eternal Misery (2015) and I can certainly say that it does not disappoint at all! This is their third release and I can honestly say that it lives up to the No Zodiac name, it is in my opinion the best they have ever sounded whether it be from the new style of writing which seems to include more of the classical death metal styles and yet still lives up to the hard hitting band that they are. It is simply a lot more aggressive than their previous releases and this is clearly heard in tracks such as The Tribulation and Sigil of Aciel.
After listening to this album you can clearly tell that the band wanted to go in a different direction and push the boundaries of their music without losing the signature No Zodiac sound. They definitely achieved this as the album is very wide spread when it comes to adding in different styles and influences, for example in the track Entombed you can prominently hear the black metal influences throughout the song, however, in the track Swine it is clear that they never lost the original slam/beatdown sound in which they created with their first two releases. I honestly found it very hard to pick fault with this album as it is jam packed with songs that will make it irresistible to nod your head to leave you in awe after hearing the more heavy parts.
Not only is Altars of Impurity No Zodiac’s first album with their new vocalist (who definitely lives up to the performance of the previous vocalist on their last release Eternal Misery) but it also has some amazing guest vocalist spots with big names such as Karebear of Suburban Scum. However, the more stand our guest vocalist is Trevor Stnrad of Black Dahlia Murder in the track Hung by the Tongue.
I was also extremely happy to see that the bonus track on the album is a re recorded version of arguably one of their best songs, the title track of their first release Population Control. It was certainly a brilliant end to an almost flawless album.
In conclusion, this is an excellent album and is going to be one of, if not, the best release of April and it is definitely a contender for best release of 2017!
