Lisbon rockers Her Name Was Fire released their debut album April 7th ” Road Antics ” via Raging Planet Records.
Forming the band in 2015 was João Campos (Gula, ex-Rejects United, ex-Summer of Damien) and Tiago Lopes (ex-Rejects United, ex-Witchbreed, ex-Parasomnia Noise) bring a heavy hitting stoner rock sound reminiscent of Queens Of The Stone Age and Kyuss which fans of rock will definitely appreciate. Having played a number of shows and festivals they now follow up their EP with a the full length album ” Road Antics “.
The album kicks off with the track ” Little Pain ” a catchy song starting off with a lo-fi fuzz effect before setting off into full throttle of the sing along chorus. Bringing the vocal dominant tracks alive accompanied by a heavy rock sound which is carried on throughout the album making it an easy listen. The track ” Gone In A Haze ” is one of our favourites with it’s slow methodical pace and dirty sound with lots of gritty instrumentals of tight grooves and low end guitars.
The bass and guitar really stand out with their heavy fuzz inspired sound giving a classic feel to their tracks whilst retaining a modern approach to their songs. It would be great to hear more diversity in their songs with a lot of the songs being quite forgettable as they do sound quite the same. The production on the album is good but after listening for some time the vocals can get a bit irritable with some of the more whiny parts but the singing overall isn’t bad. Check out the track ” Summer Strummer ” with brings all the bands elements together for what is the best track on the album.
Overall Her Name Was Fire debut is decent and will appeal to fans of QOTSA that appreciate a classic rock sound with catchy choruses and heavy rock instrumentals.
