What a difference a year makes. I remember listening to Godeater’s first release Abyss Walker, followed by Outerstellar (which I gave a healthy 8.5 to, you can read it here) in May last year and I honestly struggled to find anything I enjoyed half as much (apart from Final Fantasy XV’s soundtrack but I think that’s a bit different). Enter Exsanguinated.
Boys, I’m blown away. If you’re not proud, you absolutely should be. I could have cried listening to Exsanguinated solely because I’m genuinely proud of how much they’re improved and again I am honoured to have early access to Godeater’s latest release. It’s refreshing to listen to something of such a high calibre from people who are so down to earth and humble.
So, what does it sound like? This is God(eater)-tier technical death metal with no shortage of blastbeats, impactful lyrical genius and catchy riffs. I feel a lot of advocacy in the subject matter, something close to my own heart so it punches deep (“Exsanguinated” is fancy talk for draining blood. You’re welcome).
Having been a fan of Godeater since almost their conception it’s great to see how far the boys have come. If the rest of the album is half as good as Exsanguinated then I’d go as far as to say we have a masterpiece on our hands. So, they get my highest ever score at a whopping 9.5
Keep fighting the good fight. Namaste motherfuckers.
