On first listen to this album I wasn’t so sure how I felt, but after a few more times through, I did start to get a somewhat nostalgic feeling as I feel Figure of Six have taken inspiration from quite a few bands I like.
Welcome To The Freak Show, the first song on the album, had a similar sort of vibe to Crown The Empire’s Johnny’s Revenge but with a heavier sound, mainly because of how they opened the song, this did make me a little hesitant at first. However, listening through the album you start to understand what they’re about style wise which definitely does include some unique portrayals.
Overall it is a pretty solid album but it does feel like a lot of stuff I’ve heard before which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but with a lot of the releases this year, and the mixed reviews a lot of the mainstream bands with how they’ve changed (teehee.) I have heard worse and I have heard better. The music scene is getting a lot more competitive and I feel strongly that Figure of Six haven’t reached their maximum potential. Granted, lyrically, this band is strong and I really felt the emotion.
They did end the album nicely though with But Deliver Us From Evil as much as it threw me being the only acoustic track but they did leave me wishing for and wanting something more.
