Crushing, and full of devastating riffs that hit you brutally in the feels. Southampton-based metalcore outfit Deference are here to annihilate everything with their EP False Awakening, which is set for self-release on March 31st.
Aimed for those who adore bands like Architects and In Hearts Wake, whilst matching their forward thinking, it seems Deference have perfected a sound that is groovy, yet extremely harsh.
It’s a formula that many have attempted to recreated endlessly with little or next to no success. But things have changed, the ground has shifted, and a lot of space has been made to allow this titan of a band to wander in through, stomping into the fray with incredible tracks such as Scavengers, False Awakening and Become Death Pt. II.
The awe inspiring guitar work generated by the creative duo that are Matt Dennison & Jonathan Prince provide excellent contrast, especially on Departure. The melodic, sorrow filled picking met with progressive, down tuned chords really drive home that sense of loss, and resonate perfectly with the audience.
It’s more than clear why these guys attracted so much attention on Kerrang! Radio – especially with the vocal repertoire provided by the talented Rob Lea and Matt Dennison.
Having previously toured across Europe with True Lie and shared stages with Rolo Tomassi, Napoleon, The Hell and Shields, we can all place our money that this outfit are set to achieve wonderful things. Here’s to the future! And here’s to heavy fucking music.
Also… you are all going to fucking love the ending breakdown on False Awakening, which is already out on YouTube as a single, so what are you waiting for, search it now!
Deference set the bar high with probably the strongest metalcore release so far this year, pushing themselves far to achieve phenomenal results.
