Up and coming American metalcore/djent band Currents are releasing their eagerly awaited new album ” The Place I Feel Safest ” via Sharptone Records on 11th June.
The band have been making waves since forming in 2011 fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene. Their last album ” Life/Lost ” which certainly turned some heads due to the heavy down tuned guitars, technical prowess and sheer in your face nature of their songs. After a vocalist change in 2015 with Brian Wille joining the metal clan they are back with their new album and ready to make a lot of noise.
The album kicks off with the track ” Apnea ” which is a disorder that causes you stop breathing whilst asleep, well this track caused us to hold our breath whilst fully awake. With a blend of ambient tones, heavy chuggy guitars and well placed technical passages that will have you wanting to throw down instantly, starting off strong with this opening track we are definitely impressed. This is followed up by the track ” Tremor ” which has a disgustingly tasty groove, one of the coolest sounding guitar bends which is so simple but effective and a strong chorus carried by more ambient goodness and all out chug fest.
Just from the first couple of tracks you can tell this album is the best yet from the guys in Currents. Three months ago they released the track ” Night Terrors ” which had us here at Invicta eagerly wanting more of their brand of metal awesomeness. This song completely destroys everything in its path bringing melodic and heavy together in what is still our favourite track on the new album. Close behind our favourite is the song “ Delusion ” which explodes like a grenade to the face with some tasty riffs and a low end that melts your face off before descend into a melodic and vocal heavy verse that then gets accompanied by some bouncy rhythm riffage continuing on to what is easily becoming one of the best albums so far this year.
The rest of the album doesn’t disappoint with tracks such as ” Withered ” which has an official music video that was recently released. Also the songs ” Silence ” and ” Best Memory ” stand out, with so many good tracks on the album you won’t find yourself skipping tracks and will have it on repeat constantly as you soak up each breakdown, scream, solo, blistering drums pace and groove.
In conclusion go buy this album and support one of the best bands of the new breed of metal that are here to stay and that blow everything else away in its path!
Heavy, melodic, ambient mixes metalcore and djent for an unstoppable force that is Currents
