Austrian five piece and ‘Vienna Style’ Hardcore heavyweights Companion make a huge return with their second full length album Unbroken which is to be released June 2nd 2017 through the emerging Australian label 1054 Records. The band have previously had three releases the first being their debut demo What Keeps Us Alive (2012) the second being their EP You Are Not On Your Own (2014) and finally the band’s debut full length For The Underdogs (2015)
This release is nothing but pure hardcore with clear inspirations from the many greats such as Madball, HateBreed and Terror. As a fan of hardcore myself I can one hundred percent recommend this album to any fans of pure riffy bands with plenty of parts that will make you want to do a spin kick or two.
The album opens up with the band’s intro which leads straight into the title track Unbroken. The combination of these two tracks lead to an album opening which cannot be forgotten as the intro is a huge build up to what is certainly one of the best tracks on the album! Unbroken consists of everything that you would wish to find in an opening track on any hardcore release; fast/thrashy riffs, two step parts and a hard hitting beatdown to wrap up the track.
This album in my opinion does not have a bad track on it! It is jam packed with songs that could be called the best on the record and there is not a single track that I would say doesn’t live up to what Companion are all about. This may not be the case for the outro of the album however, as it completely loses the hardcore sound all together and aims for a very melodic, ‘feel good’ sound which does not suit the band at all. Overall, a very good album with minor weak spots and can sometimes become a little repetitive.
My Top Track: 2. Unbroken
Companion's second full length release is top quality hardcore
