Closet Disco Queen release Sexy Audio Deviance for Punk Bums a three track instrumental EP. The tracks all hold a different vibe that the others, whilst coming together to make a coherent and well done instrumental record.
Ninjaune kicks off the proceedings slowly, with an eerie and faint synth pattern, before other instrumentation slowly builds in, first with Luc Hess’ repetitive drumming before Jona Nido comes in with a soft guitar part over the top. However the song quite quickly goes towards a more rhythmic section, before harder hitting rocky guitar melodies entwine with it. Towards the end Nido gets to flex his technical abilities on the guitar ever so slightly, a preview of what is to come on the two other tracks.
El Moustachito comes in guitar and drum driven straight away, yet still calmer than the rest of the song to follow, similar in layout to Ninjaune in that respect. However, El Moustachito is a different kind of beast, with Hess taking a far more aggressive drumming style, and Nido’s playing style becoming more technical, we get a stompy, blues rock number that sounds fantastic.
Délicieux begins to close out Sexy Audio Deviance for Punk Bums with a stripped back guitar only intro, before rolling drums come in, before picking the track up into the rockiest track of the release, bluesy yet heavy bass mimics the rhythmic elements of Hess’ frantic guitar playing. The track takes a break from the wild guitar parts, to link up the bass and guitar for a moody rhythmic part, with Nido adding in trills over the top every so often.
The record, whilst only containing three tracks, does well to put forward that Closet Disco Queen are a band not only comfortable with their instrumental skills, but also how well they can write music that may center around a similar musical style each time, yet each track is refreshing and unique!
