Harrowing. Grotesque. Claustrophobic.
It raises the hairs on one’s arms, causes the heart to palpitate, the spine to buckle, the teeth to grind and chatter.
The sheer brutality and sadistic nature embedded in every note, every lyric, every snare hit accumulates into something disgusting. It festers under the surface of your skin. The addictive adrenaline fueled red mist is just something that we all can’t get enough of.
Germany’s finest Slam/Deathcore icons Acranius deliver one of the best releases in the early stages of 2017. Reign of Terror was abhorrent upon it’s inception on January 27th 2017 via Rising Nemesis Records, and continues to relentlessly haunt those brave enough to brace it’s onslaught of breakdowns, slams and blast beats. It is wildly beyond satisfying. A full body inducing orgasm, the grin that traces your face when the final note sounds out on this album is nothing more than the full stop to cement it’s name positively in the history books.
First and foremost. The violent imagery laced explicitly within the front cover artwork is only nothing but a warning to those who decide to spin this CD at their own discretion. So please be warned.
It is extremely difficult to choose even a single track to list as the true diamond amongst the body of blood-soaked gold. But Warpath and Outlaw seem to be the main two chapters that stand out the most, (closely followed by The Executioner and Kingmaker).
Exhaling nothing but pure bile, hatred and self-loathing. The powerhouse that is Rob Herman Arndt on Drums is nothing short of a juggernaut, propelling each riff to soaring highs before punishing the listener with a swift interruption. That is when you know the riffs are about to transition very suddenly, into something ugly, powerful and drenched in misery. You can’t run, you can’t hide, you just have to brace yourself the best you can.
We also must applaud the vocal delivery of Kevin Petersen who’s astoundingly low, guttural and harsh vocal style resonates with the repugnant, sinister riffs created by Guitarist Björn Frommberger.
The cataclysmic beast that is Reign of Terror is not for the feint hearted. All who enjoy barbaric and disturbing music should purchase this ASAP.
Just do as advised.
No one is safe from the bloodthirsty German Deathcore machine. Acranius do not show any sign of mercy. All bow before the Reign of Terror.
