A Lie Nation are a Finnish extreme metal quintet, with their eyes set on the horizon for their upcoming sophomore EP, Begin Hate. Which is due April 5th 2017 via Inverse Records.
This EP is slightly rough around the edges, but the form is there, and it’s structured in a sense that metaphorically gives itself quite a sturdy spine. A well postured way of standing up for itself. It does this, because it doesn’t stray far from the path. It more so walks on the edge of it. So it’s got to keep it’s feet firmly planted and hold it’s ground amongst the vast yet harsh music industry.
Possessing a great deal of talent, whilst adding a fine sprinkling of melody – A Lie Nation provide something somewhat revitalizing, entertaining and engaging but it’s short lived. The solo work must be greatly applauded on the first installment, “Rot of the Spirit”. But the quintet put their own limitations in place via conventional elements such as cliche lyrics, revolving around apocalyptic motifs. Lyrically, something stronger needs to be supplied, to match the sheer quality of the instrumentation.
The stand out track is clearly awarded to the 3rd track, titled “Into Black Divine”. Which masterfully employs their melodic influences whilst sustaining the galloping, heaviness of each catchy riff.
The brevity of Begin Hate arguably is the fine line between it’s downfall or it’s breakthrough. As 4 tracks may be seen or mistaken as lacking content to some audience members. However, for what it’s worth, it can’t be disputed that this is a solid endeavour and does make a good casual listen for most.
A well rounded, and finely polished sophomore EP, with a great foundation. This collective should advance significantly in the future when it comes to their first debut album. But must shake the shackles of their conventions in order to do so.
