LIVE: Green Day @ The o2, London 08/02/2017

By Danie Strodtmann @DanieDoo · On February 15, 2017

Green Day are finally back and head out on a small UK tour for their new album Revolution Radio. Support came from LA based band The Interrupters. The four-piece welcomed the crowd to the show with a half hour set. They mainly presented songs from their self-titled album and a few tracks from new release Say It Out Loud.

Coming to the band of the night. They started the show right off with Know Your Enemy and a fan on stage to sing along. Billie Joe then encouraged that girl to leave the stage by jumping into the crowd. The trio went on to play Bang Bang and Revolution Radio before the banner in the background changed from the album cover to the band name.

Green Day performed plenty of songs from the hit album American Idiot and mixed them with hits from the bands early years like When I Come Around, Minority and Christie Road. They also brought another fan on stage who got to play a few chords on Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar before he got her to keep it.

He mentioned a few times during the set how important it is for them that the fans enjoy the show in unity and to put all the hate away that’s out in the world. He also couldn’t hold back on his hate against Trump and made a little joke while singing London – England – a not so United Kingdom.

Going on with the set and the songs St. Jimmy and Basket Case before the band had a lay down on stage while playing a little mash up of cover songs like Shout and Teenage Kicks. The show slowly came to an end when Green Day pulled out a water hose to cool down the crowd and gave away band shirts before playing American Idiot and Jesus of Suburbia.

After a short Encore, singer Billie Joe got back on stage on his own to present acoustic versions of Ordinary World and Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool then came back on stage to wave goodbye after the confetti cannons went off and the show finished.

[…] Last week I also went to see Green Day live at The o2 in London after AXS released some last minute tickets. I basically spent my remaining money for the month on this ticket but it was worth it and probably one of the best concerts I’ve been to. They love what they do and appreciate everyone and everything that comes along qith it and you can feel that. Absolute genuine and great band. I wrote a review for this show for Invicta magazine so if you want to check it out click Here. […]
