We sat once again in the back of the Tour Bus outside Subside, Birmingham, this time joined by the talented quartet: Gaz, Steven, Andrew and Ian of From Sorrow To Serenity. Who to say the least had a very comedic, yet down to earth chat about all things current. Minutes before they kicked off the 1st day of their Golden Age Tour in full effect.
Starting off the questions was in fact the one and only banshee and ex-Nexilva vocalist Gaz T King, who asked if he had to watch his language… Of course anything goes! So we started off with a round of laughs after a sigh of relief with a cry “Thank fuck for that!”.
After the release of your Album “Remnant of Humanity” last year, you picked up Gaz on Vocals, how has his addition been to the band?
Steven: “Smashing, couldn’t have gone any better, he’s been a great addition on all levels, not just on vocals, but as a person. Because bands are a team”.
Gaz: “It helps because everything is fresh now, so it’s like a new love, you know, like when you get a new girlfriend and you’re just proper hyped about it! Honeymoon period and everything man”.
Steven: “We’re just striving to write better songs, and be better live, it couldn’t have gone better at all”.
Ian: “He helps move all my drum stuff what better could you want!”
You just released your single, “The Golden Age”, how do you feel about the reception it has had? Are you building up for an EP or another Album in the near future?
Steven: “I’m really chuffed with how well it’s doing”
Gaz: “It’s been a long time since I’ve been on anything musically, since my previous band. So really it’s new territory for me clean singing so the support from and for that has been amazing. It’s been a bit of a confidence builder and I’m really happy with it. And I can’t wait to write more as we’re working on a album at the minute. So we’re just writing and writing and writing and we’re trying to tour in between”.
Tonight will be the first date of your “Golden Age” Tour, what is it like when you are preparing for a Tour?
Ian: “We tend to do things on Tour, it’s not like a specific ritual or anything, we just do things because it’s funny, or stupid. Like doing a 4 part harmony of “Crawling” by Linkin Park. Everyday”.
Andrew: “Listening to Danielle Beddingfield”.
Gaz: “I think too much aggression can drive you insane, so you just gotta listen to something sweet – and romantic”.
Steven: “We really don’t have any sort of practicing ritual, and we probably should consider that, for example Gaz came up on Monday, and all week we practiced, and he was just there the whole time”.
Slightly generic, but what are your favourite songs to perform live?
Gaz: “Break the Mould”
Ian: “Nescient, even though it’s really difficult”
Andrew: “For me Forsaken, because the last bit of the song gets me pure raggy!”.
Steven: “We are playing a new song, not The Golden Age, but for me it’s great to play something fresh”
What inspires you as a band, and what musicians or bands do you like up to and potentially draw inspiration from (as you have worked with CJ McMahon of Thy Art Is Murder on Guest Vocals)?
Steven: “Personally, I always think Parkway Drive, which is a big one for me. There’s also Meshuggah, I like what Deftones are doing as well”.
Gaz: “Well for me, another band from home is Carcer City, they are doing really, really well. And they do a wicked live show, they are a really inspiring band as they work so hard. It’s how hard we want to work as well. So shout out to them!”
Ian: “Fit For An Autopsy, we did a tour with them last summer, it was just a tremendous time. One of the best weeks of my life”.
Again, we thank Gaz, Steven, Andrew and Ian for their time and hope they had an incredible tour alongside LOTUS EATER. Who you can find an interview with and the show review posted on our page.
